Curating Career Life Stories: How Did I Get Here? Episode 25 – An interview with Kim Carver
Join me for the career story reflections of Kim Carver, President & CEO of The Leading Network and advisor for The Human Advantage. Hear how she launches her career at STAR Television in Hong Kong a week after graduating from DU.
Four years later, she accepts a new role with GALAXY Television in Sydney, Australia, then establishes herself as one of the top managers in the sports broadcasting industry while launching several FOX networks under the FOXTEL brand. She’s in the right place, at the right time, with the right connections…until her job gets eliminated. Devastating at the time, but something she bounces back from. Driven to create value, not just manage it, she’s reinventing herself as a leadership consultant, finding the right words to describe the leadership instincts she’s trusted throughout her career that made her successful.

Hi. I’m Kim’s sister and I’d like to say a couple of things. First, I love this platform. I think it’s really great that you are telling stories of extraordinary women. Second, Kim, I loved what you had to say. It was really great to hear the story of your life laid out like this. Third, you gave me way too much credit. I just provided an opportunity for you but I had no idea where it was going to lead. You are the one who has built an incredible body of work. You have a great ability to take on suggestions and make them work in the best possible way for you and those around you. You also underplayed some of the obstacles that you encountered working in a largely male dominated field. You are one of the few women who has really succeeded in sports TV and I think it’s given you additional insight that can be shared with others. I think any company would be very lucky to be working with you. Cheers.
Thank you Jennifer for listening and for your wonderful feedback! Totally agree that Kim underplays the challenges she had to have faced, but then again that’s Kim!
Thanks ladies. I really appreciate you BOTH.
