I decided to create a book to honor my parents because I had realized I had limited time left with my mom after my dad had passed.

My time with them recently had been focused on day-to-day care but I decided I wanted to preserve a lasting memory of their lives and our family.

I found the discovery process to be enjoyable and enlightening.

While looking through old photos, news clipping, and artifacts I learned I had twin uncles and was named after one of them.

I was also surprised to learn that my dad, who was always so reserved, participated in high school activities and plays.

I knew my mom sang and acted in plays but didn’t know my dad was a toastmaster or an actor.

For me, the process of creating the book was just as important, if not more important, than the finished product.

I do like having our photos and paper documents preserved digitally and in a book for easy access.

I wish I would have done the book when mom and dad could more fully participate so they could add more detail and accuracy.

You don’t really know what the finished book is going to look like when you haven’t done one before, but going through the process was so worthwhile and the end result is terrific.
