Curating Career Life Stories: How Did I Get Here? Episode 79 – An interview with Jess Sato
Join me for the career reflections of Jess Sato, co-founder of 2 Smart Girls. A move from the Midwest to the Middle East at age 10 significantly impacts her outlook on the world and her career. She learns the language, loves the culture and decides she wants to become an international lawyer.
Once in college, she realizes being a lawyer is not for her, she leaves with a double major in Arabic language and political science with a focus on Middle Eastern politics. Her first job is amazing — decision analysis at a major aerospace company! At 21 she’s facilitating conversations with military leaders and subject matter experts trying to make decisions that solve future problems – like deciding the future needs of American fighter jets. Wow!
What’s served her best: being curious about the possibilities and then making a decision and taking action. Her words of wisdom: “When you’re stuck it’s easy to get bogged down in trying to figure out all the pieces. I’ve found that if I do just one little thing it moves me forward. Action begets action, and action begets clarity. You get clarity by taking action.”
