Curating Career Life Stories: How Did I Get Here? Episode 59 – An interview with David Blaha
Join me for the career story reflections of David Blaha, former executive at American Express now pursuing entrepreneurial and consulting ventures. A 30-year journey that starts in telemarketing because he needs a job, but he then becomes very purposeful about his career moves acquiring the acumen and experience needed to become general manager.
With restless and boundless energy, he covers many areas at American Express: sales, account management, product development, marketing, international, domestic, consumer, corporate, finance, etc. And because Amex is such a large organization, it is like starting over each time — new people, processes, and priorities to learn. A tough decision to leave, but he knew it was time and is excited about what’s next.
David’s words of wisdom: “People are at their best and greatest when we’re excited about a challenge and learning and growing. Typically, that’s when we’re doing something for the first time, something we don’t know how to do, and it might be uncomfortable, but it’s probably the most fun.”
