Join me for the career story reflections of David Harriman, Independent Home & Auto Insurance Broker. David begins working odd jobs at a young age to help pay for his education and other basic needs. Determined that he won’t struggle financially as an adult, he seeks counsel from a friend’s parent who is the most successful person he knows.
This new mentor surprises him with advice about careers he wish he’d pursued instead of the one he was in. David follows his advice and 10 years later is living the life he loves! Of course his journey is not without challenges — getting started, surviving the lean years, staying the course when he felt frustrated or bored. A pivotal moment for David is when his first child is born, “a switch got flipped and I never cared again that I was bored. That feeling that my work had to be my purpose went out the window, my kid was my purpose. Now, NOT being defined by my work, I’m suddenly able to enjoy my job more than ever. I really love what I do!”
