Wow, 2016 has come and gone, time to focus on a new year and new goals.
I’m not a fan of resolutions, but I am a big fan of reflections, toasts and tributes.
Reflecting on what I accomplished, toasting to those I’m most grateful to have in my life and paying tribute to individuals who have impacted me in some way.
Days, weeks, months, even years can start running together causing life to feel like a blur. So it is important to pause periodically and reflect on the highlights, and maybe even some of the low points, acknowledging what we have learned and how we’ve grown.
Funny how once we enter the workforce we have to find our own opportunities and reasons to reflect on our lives. Gone are the days of inspirational keynote speeches at graduations. Making New Year’s, as well as milestone birthdays or anniversaries, the perfect time for reflections.
Except too often we dread that milestone birthday because it reminds us that we are getting older, that we are moving into a new decade, moving into the next age-range demographic, and sometimes moving us closer to new medical procedures — yikes!
But maybe we wouldn’t dread these milestone birthdays so much if we treated them like a high school or college graduation. Where we recognize and look forward to the passage from one point in time to the next new, exciting phase. Acting as the keynote speaker of our own life, reflecting on what we’ve learned, toasting to who we are, and paying tribute to what we’ve achieved.
How cool would that be!
